Listen to this “The Bullhorn Guy’s Response 2” how to share (we do don’t we?).
For the next 4 weeks we will have the Westfalls in our class. Kari Windon is teaching the little ones and Laura (7/15) , Jackie (7/22), Barb (7/29), and Pam (8/5) will help. This falls under the edification goals in our class. This was a very thoughtful idea (I think it was Kari’s) to give the Westfalls a break and give them a chance to have some donuts and us a chance to know them a little better.
Remember this week’s class will be a planning time for the Movie Night- Facing the Giants. I will post a plan for our class time. Pray and think about what we’re going to do. I hope to post the letter to our sister churches along with the ad in the Towne Crier.
Pam and I were talking last night about how things in the church seem to be just fitting together like puzzle pieces. Jackie gets a job with a paper, different planning groups come up with similar ideas for programs and Pastor’s messages are paving the way to changes in the body. The Holy Spirit works! (At least when we let Him)
Jackie and Doug are going to place an ad in the Towne Crier for the Movie and Bonfire night (to show Facing the Giants, Aug 17 6:30 PM). What a blessing, now the real work begins. Next Sunday (July 14th) we will spend the class time praying and planning for the Movie Family Night. So pray and think about what challenges we will face and what we need to overcome them.
See you Sunday…
Here’s the plan: this post will stay at the top of our blog to be a reminder of the schedule of events. The tentative date is Aug 17, 7 PM. I will check with Lancaster Fire Department about the bonfire and what permits are needed if any. Jackie will be our “scheduler” for the promotional schedule. Next week we will take volunteers for specific tasks; radio interviews, visiting our sister churches, talking to football coaches, passing out fliers or praying (which is the most important task of all).
So, stay tuned, I’ll keep you updated as best I can.
Missionaries to Hawaii, to be precise and they are associated with Baptist Mid-Missions. Ron and Elena have 2 grown children. They have been missionaries 25+ years in Hawaii for 2 churches. A few years ago they “retired” and took another church on another island. Soon they hope to have their church to be self-supporting. This is a big challenge due to the high cost of real estate; a small house could cost up to a million dollars. And property with a decent amount of land for parking and such would be beyond our belief.
Next ABF Class (April
we will have a little quiz. Here’s the subject matter, missionaries and where they serve and a little about them. So do you research and dig deep in your memories for some interesting facts (well fact or maybe some vague memories you can recall). What I’ll do is post a little factoid about a missionary every day or so with a link to the CIA website. (the best, most imformative country fact and info site going).
What’s this about? It’s an idea in my ABF teachers manual and it will fit with the next few lessons. How to reach other cultures for Christ. We’ll talk about different ways or approaches needed to reach them.
Stay tuned…
First missionaries, an easy one-the Englands. Second one is a mystery, you’ll have to guess who it is by the facts and hints.
We need to make a game plan (pun intended) this Sunday for our movie night. We need to consider the following.
- Who from our class will be there?
- Who will MC?
- What kinds of treats will we have?
- Are we ready to deal with the counseling? if necessary.
What we do know:
- It’s at 7 PM
- It’s Friday April 20
- It’s going to be in the auditorium on the large screen
- It’s a great movie
- I’m gonna have a good time!
- I’ll buy the movie
- It’s for all ages and we will direct our focus towards the youth.

Facing the Giants, popcorn, candy and cards for the Whitesell Family is our project for this week. Our girls are going to make cards and we will find a card to send with the care package. So feel free to have your kids make or buy cards for Warren, Karen and the kids and don’t forget your own. I have also talked to Jill and Pastor and they will be sending cards along with our class cards.
This is a cool project that I cannot wait to complete. We need to decide Sunday on how to package it. We could send it box within a box and tell them to only open it when it’s Friday night and they have time for a family night or we could let them just open the box and plan the evening themselves. Either way it’ll be fun to complete this project. I would also like to take a digital picture of our class with our kids so we could include the picture with the package. We can do this after church this Sunday. Then I can just go to Walgreen’s to print it out before we send the care package.
If anyone has more ideas to go along with what we have so far please feel free to add the ideas to the blog. Remember you can never have enough candy or popcorn (a kids point of view) to go with a movie.
Here’s a link for some cool ideas to “edify” . Great ways to edify . Soon, I’ll put all the projects on the blog and you can add to it if you like.
Hey, what’s with the name of the blog, Prime Timers? Well it’s better than Old Timers. I figure we are in the prime of our lives, a time when we influence our children (and other’s children), care for our families, build our careers, save for our futures and most important live and grow in Jesus Christ. So, Prime Timers is fitting.
Remember this; our blog is only as good as we make it. Or more likely as good as we contribute to it. We can use this site to share our progress in and on our goals. How? you can post prayer requests, detail how you are sharing the Gospel, write a book or movie review and just leave a note to your classmates.
I hope to make a google group this week that we can use as a contact point. Here’s how it works: whenever someone posts a note on the site (the google group site) everyone will get an email with a short description of what was written. Also if you start a conversation and someone comments on it you will get an mail notifying you a conversation is in progress.
Why two web sites? Two reasons; the blog will be a nice place for longer articles and stories and the google group will be a great place for notes and scheduled events that benefit from discussion or more planning.
